Creative and Engaging DBT Resources to Enhance the Dialectical Behavior Therapy Skills Training Experience

We help people learn DBT’s practical life skills to have a brighter future.

Make a difference with our resources for:

Clinicians – DBT Participants – Schools – Music Therapists

Why Music?

Music is engaging, fun, & helps us remember things. Reinforcing skills for mindfulness, distress tolerance, emotion regulation, and interpersonal effectiveness through music can support people who are involved in a DBT program as well as those who are not.

What if I have no musical talent or know how?

No problem. Our ready made resources are easy for you to use if you are musical or not. Also, our DBT informed Board Certified Music Therapists are available to you.

Get Access to Songs for Strengthening DBT Skills- A Collaborative Resource

Don’t stress about searching for popular song ideas for your DBT groups or sessions; songs to help with DBT skills. We’ve created a place for everyone to find what they are looking for. The only thing we ask in return is for you to share songs you use to strengthen skills so we continue to add to our list.

What is DBT?  Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) is an effective evidence-based treatment model created by Dr. Marsha Linehan, that uses skills training in the areas of mindfulness, distress tolerance, emotion regulation, and interpersonal effectiveness, to “change behavioral, emotional, thinking, and interpersonal patterns associated with problems in living” (Linehan 2015) DBT skills can enhance the lives of all.

Here’s how we help with DBT.

Clinicians

As a DBT clinician,  we understand that you sometimes have challenges with clients who don’t pay attention or are bored in groups, and those who just can’t seem to remember the skills.  We’ve designed a ready-made resource library of activities to help you: (even for the non-musician)

  • Make your DBT groups more engaging!
  • Make virtual groups more interactive!
  • Reach participants with different learning styles!
  • Enhance client ability to understand and apply DBT skills!
  • Provide a variation on skills groups for participants who are on a 2nd or 3rd cycle!

Research fact: In a recent study completed at Kalamazoo Psychiatric Hospital, a music therapist and a psychologist compared traditional DBT skills groups with skills training that included music therapy.  The results on client outcomes were favorable for music.  The results will be released in the Journal of Music Therapy.  Until then all the details can’t be released.
